Safety
First
Your bike or walk commute can be made as safe as possible
if you follow some simple guidelines:
- Always wear brightly colored or white clothing. Make sure motorists can see you.
- Keep your bike in good running order. Get regular tune-ups. Check your tires, brakes and handlebars before each use.
- Investigate the safest route to work. The route you drive may not be the best bicycling or walking route. Consider lighting, automobile traffic, existence of bike lanes or sidewalks, etc.
- Try to find a walking or biking buddy. There's safety in numbers.
- Whether you walk or bike, know the law. Most applicable laws were passed for safety reasons.
- If you’re a cyclist, wear a properly fitted helmet!
